All Excel Files Open in Read Only
Split from this thread about a font trouble in Word.
I did all that - since this is sixteen.fourteen.ane it returns no updates.
Actually not worried near Give-and-take - my Excel load for Role 2016 will not work as follows ( yes it is the recent version):
Why can I not open from the RECENT carte a file to edit?
Merely if I open from the directory tin can I open a non read only. EVEN if that file is a new one generated in Function 2016.
EVERYTHING opened in FILE/OPEN Recent opens equally read only.
If it is an old file generated in 2011 - information technology has TIMES NEW ROMAN, etc.; Excel sees the font in the erstwhile file.
Just I cannot apply TIMES NEW ROMAN and lots of others ( CALIBRA, ETC) if I generate a new file in 2016. Those fonts are not in the font library anymore..

I HAVE THE LATEST - in that location ar NO UPDATES to be had - I even forced an update - cannot update if I take the latest 16.14 - and sixteen.fifteen is not available until tardily July.
ALL files opened from the 2016 drib downwards "open recent" load as READ But AND Will NOT
Save WITH THE Aforementioned FILE NAME.
I relieve and get COPY OF added - open that one and it is read only.
File info in finder shows the file unlocked. The option for read but on the file carte du jour is ALWAYS greyed out.
If I open an Erstwhile file from finder it opens editable.
Same file from opened from Recent is read only.
Missing fonts open up with old files but are not bachelor with new files or read only old files.
I idea I got away from he MS beast in 2013 - now they won't get out Apple users be.
I deleted 2011 and it made no difference,so I am using it until something happens.

Just to brand things clear:
You airtight the file before and then open via recent? Otherwise the behavior would be normal.
Anyway: I experienced strange problems like that on a NAS and it turns out that in some cases lock files won't be deleted when endmost the document. If you lot open the document later on, Excel will say that it is broken, in use or weiteprotected. These lockfiles are normally subconscious, then you wanna make all files visible past using the terminal command (Google). If you're on 10.xiii, merely open up Finder and press Shift + CMD + . (punctuation mark). If y'all detect files that begin with ~$ you successfully spotted a lockfile. If the file without the prefix is not opened past anyone at the moment, endeavor to delete the lockfile. Then open the document.

What is "NAS"?
What does GOOGLE take to practice with opening an Excel file?
My version of Excel in office 2016 is 16.14.1
My Mac OS is Loftier Sierra, ten.13.five
I tried shift+CMD+. - No locked files
I disd all this as soon every bit the files were read only
Function 2011 (in employ since 2013) works normal - files are editable and salve.
Office 2016 Excel files ALL open Read only from the file.open recent bill of fare.
They open normal using finder or file open, Merely WILL NOT SAVE.
I get an error saying the file is read only fifty-fifty tough it doesnt say sa and the file/open up read only is greyed out.
